MAC Brick O La Lipstick Review
MAC Brick O La Lipstick Review
I don’t have that many lipsticks especially since I didn’t know what would work for me. But after coming across IMBB, I’ve been lemming for quite a few! After reading a lot about MAC’s lipsticks, I finally gave in and so recently got my very first MAC lipstick…yippee ! You can imagine my excitement :P I had always been reaching out for safe brown colors to go with my pigmented lips and NC 44/45 skin tone because most pinky lippies I have tried used to wash me out. Then I decided I’d try out a MAC lipstick and that’s how this one ended up coming home with the MAC Brick O La Lipstick.
The one I got is called Brick O La. MAC describes Brick O La as a mid tone berry and it is an amplified crème finish. Forgive me for this but I’m not too literate about the different finishes of lipsticks that MAC has to offer.
So, this is what I found online on a website:
Amplified Crème: High impact and high colour with lots of shine for a dramatic look.
I got this for 9.500 Rials from Oman. I guess it should be around 90-95 dirhams in UAE.
My Experience with MAC Brick O La Lipstick:
I don’t know why this is called Brick O La because I don’t see anything of a brick color in it ( don’t quote me on that; just my opinion :P) I would say that on me, this shade has a multiple personality. It looked really nice in the MAC store. Once I tried it out at home, it changed its tune. When applied on directly and heavily, it washes me out but if I apply it sparingly and rub it out, then it looks a lovely reddish- pinkish brown on me. I also tried using a brown lipliner to line my lips and then applied it lightly. It looks nice this way also. I don’t quite know how to describe the color; all I can say is it is something different for me and I like it Do check out the swatches and how it looks on my lips when applied in different ways to get a better idea.
Here’s how it looks on my lips:
Another thing, I know many people say this formula is quite creamy and keeps lips moisturized, but for me it is not creamy enough. I feel that NYX’s lipsticks are creamier than this; so I apply a lot of lip balm while using it.
To sum up,
PROS of Brick O La Lipstick:
1.It is very pigmented; you don’t need much to achieve its true color on your lips.
2.It lasts a long time; after a meal, the color was still there even if a bit faded.
3.Does not have any overpowering smell or taste; I like that about this. It seems to have some vanilla like fragrance.
4.Love the colour, especially when applied sparingly.
5.I think it can be worn as an everyday color for darker skin tones like mine.
CONS of Brick O La Lipstick:
1.As you all know, MAC is EXPENSIVE ! My dad and hubby both nearly had a heart attack hearing its price; can’t blame them :P
2.I think it settles into fine lines and especially if you have dry, chapped lips. So make sure to exfoliate well before applying.
3.It’s not as moisturizing as I’d like it to be.
I can’t think of any other cons. I am quite liking how it looks on me.
Have you tried Brick O La ? Would you want to try it ?
Do you have any recommendations of pinky/plummy shades like this one that might suit my skin tone and not wash me out? Would love to know your thoughts.
